The Justice Department vowed to pursue a Washington resident and government employee who heckled and threw a sandwich at federal agents patrolling D.C. streets. Sean Dunn was arrested on August 10 and charged with one count of assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers and employees of the United States after allegedly striking a Customs and Border Protection agent in the chest. D.C. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro described the act as a serious crime and warned that those who lay a hand on officers will face the full weight of the law. Federal prosecutors were unable to convince a grand jury to indict Dunn. Prosecutors also failed three times to secure a grand jury indictment against Sydney Lori Reid for an alleged felony assault while recording a prisoner transfer.
Let me be clear, if you lay a hand on a law enforcement officer, be certain we will come after you with the full weight of the law. Our officers have a job to do, and they should not be abused in the process.
This alleged assault is no joke - it's a serious crime, and those who think otherwise will learn just how gravely mistaken they are.
