After a scandal-plagued tenure, Christian nationalist Ryan Walters announced he will resign as Oklahoma State Superintendent of Public Education one year early to become CEO of the Teacher Freedom Alliance. Walters made the announcement at a local KOKH news station, then left the studio and refused to answer follow-up questions. He vowed to "destroy the teachers' unions" and to "build an army of teachers" to defeat them and take the fight national. KOKH reporter Wendy Suares shared video of Walters walking out and said he avoided her questions. Walters is expected to resign in early October; Gov. Kevin Stitt will appoint a successor.
