California plans to revoke 17,000 commercial driver's licenses after discovering those licenses had expiration dates later than the drivers' federally authorized U.S. status. The decision followed criticism from the Trump administration about states granting licenses to people in the country illegally and increased scrutiny after a Florida crash involving a driver not authorized to be in the U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy characterized the revocations as an admission of improper action and pledged further enforcement. California said each affected driver had valid federal work authorization and cited a state law tying license expiration to reported legal status end dates.
