Councilmember Holly Andreatta told students at Twelve Bridges High School that her oldest daughter experienced childhood trauma and linked that trauma to the daughter becoming a lesbian and marrying a woman. Video of the remarks circulated widely and produced immediate backlash from students, families, and community members. Over 300 people signed a petition demanding the Club America chapter be shut down, and speakers at a school board meeting called for Andreatta to be censured. Andreatta initially suggested the recording had been manipulated, later deleted a Facebook post, and issued a public apology to her daughter while denying she meant to state trauma causes homosexuality.
