Multiple California professors and educators were placed on leave after posting online comments that celebrated the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Kirk, 31, was shot and killed while speaking at Utah Valley University. At UCLA, the director of race and equity was placed on leave amid investigation of BlueSky posts in which he said he was not upset by Kirk's killing. The director removed social media accounts and said he was receiving death threats. UCLA affirmed that free expression is a core value but that celebration of violence is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Similar disciplinary scenarios occurred at other California campuses.
