"I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis,"
"It's dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good."
"Their claim was self-defense, sir / Just don't believe your eyes,"
"It's our blood and bones / And these whistles and phones / Against Miller and Noem's dirty lies."
Bruce Springsteen released a new protest song condemning "King Trump" and federal immigration enforcement actions in Minneapolis. He said he wrote and recorded the song within days in response to what he described as state terror in the city. The song is dedicated to Minneapolis residents, immigrant neighbors, and the memories of Alex Pretti and Renee Good. The lyrics name both Pretti and Good, describe ICE raids and local protests, and explicitly criticize Stephen Miller and Kristi Noem for statements that conflicted with eyewitness accounts and video. Both Miller and Noem initially justified the shootings; Miller called Pretti "a would-be assassin."
