Brooklyn Dem infuriates party for backing Republican Curtis Sliwa - slamming Andrew Cuomo's NYC mayoral bid
"I have to say, Curtis has stood with our community from day one for everything the former governor, Andrew Cuomo, did to us, and also Eric Adams,"
"So today, we are here to support the best candidate for us.... the people's mayor... who is going to fight for you,"
"We need someone we can trust, not someone who is recycled with their bad behavior and their bad actors. But with Curtis we have someone who is going to represent the community, our people and every single New Yorker,"
Brooklyn Assemblywoman Jamie Williams publicly endorsed Republican mayoral nominee Curtis Sliwa and praised his record of supporting her community. Williams cited Sliwa's stance on local issues including opposition to a migrant encampment, homeless shelters, battery storage facilities, congestion pricing, and denser housing in southern Brooklyn. Williams also commended the Guardian Angels civic patrol founded by Sliwa and presented him as a trustworthy advocate for residents. Democratic activists in Canarsie responded by forming a new political club and issuing an open letter criticizing her decision to back a Republican while elected as a Democrat.
