A Border Patrol agent shot and killed 37-year-old Alex Pretti in Minneapolis while Pretti was recording law enforcement and openly carrying a firearm. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara said he reviewed video and that the footage raises serious questions, noting Pretti appeared to be exercising First Amendment rights to record and Second Amendment rights to lawfully bear arms in public. O'Hara expressed deep concern about federal claims that Pretti assaulted agents and stated that even a finding of legal justification would not alleviate the widespread outrage. O'Hara cited this shooting as one of several recent deadly incidents contributing to public alarm.
