Border Czar Tom Homan announces end to Minneapolis immigration operation, claiming success
"The Twin Cities, and Minnesota in general, are and will continue to be much safer for the communities here because of what we have accomplished under President Trump's leadership,"
"A small footprint of personnel will remain for a period of time to close out and transition full command and control back to the field office,"
Operation Metro Surge in Minnesota will end imminently with a small remaining federal presence to transition command back to local authorities. The operation expanded to about 3,000 federal immigration agents in what DHS described as its largest operation ever, and an initial drawdown removed 700 agents. The operation involved shootings that killed two people, racial profiling, detention and cross-state transfer of legal immigrants including children, vehicle crashes, deployment of chemical irritants on school property, property damage and arrests of observers, and threats to journalists. The operation included claims of increased collaboration with local law enforcement and a reduction in "agitator behavior" as conditions for further drawdown.
