Bondi files ethics complaint against federal judge who reportedly expressed concern about 'constitutional crisis'
Briefly

Chief U.S. District Judge James E. Boasberg is under investigation for alleged improper comments suggesting the Trump administration would violate federal court rulings, potentially leading to a constitutional crisis. The complaint, filed by the U.S. Department of Justice, claims Boasberg attempted to influence colleagues at a Judicial Conference meeting on March 11. He ruled on April 16 that the government likely committed criminal contempt by disobeying his earlier restraining order on deportations of Venezuelan immigrants. The Supreme Court found this case was improperly filed, but Boasberg continued with contempt proceedings.
At a March 11 meeting, Judge Boasberg expressed concerns that the Trump administration might disregard federal court rulings, suggesting it could lead to a constitutional crisis.
The complaint asserts that Judge Boasberg used a routine meeting to persuade Chief Justice Roberts and other judges that the Trump administration would violate court orders, despite having no basis for such claims.
Boasberg ruled on April 16 that there was probable cause for criminal contempt against the government for disobeying his temporary restraining order regarding Venezuelan immigrants.
Despite the Supreme Court's ruling that the case was in the wrong venue, Boasberg initiated contempt proceedings after the government transferred deportees shortly after his injunction.
