"Rumors of an ICE detention center, which have been compared to concentration camps, have prompted a declarative response from a billionaire Trump supporter. As rumors swirled that ICE was eyeing warehouse properties with the aims of creating new detention facilities-an expansion of the now-defunct "Alligator Alcatraz" facility or the camps that separated immigrant families during President Donald Trump's first term-billionaire Edward Roski, Jr. stood firm."
"But no, this deal was not going to happen-and nor will any deal like it at his company. "Majestic Realty Co. has not and will not enter into any agreement for the purchase or lease of any building to the Department of Homeland Security for use as a detention facility," the company said, adding that they "look forward to continuing our work to find a buyer or lease tenant that will help drive economic growth.""
Rumors circulated that DHS identified warehouse properties as potential ICE detention sites, likened by some to concentration camps or past family-separation facilities. Edward Roski confirmed that DHS approached Majestic Realty about a one million-square-foot site that could hold up to 9,500 beds, and Majestic publicly refused any purchase or lease for detention purposes. Majestic Realty is owned by Roski, an estimated $7 billion billionaire and longtime Republican donor who gave $200,000 to President Trump's 2024 campaign. The warehouse was among more than two dozen sites identified by DHS, and $45 billion was previously allocated to build new detention "mega centers."
