"irreparable injury."
"Today's ruling is deeply disappointing, but it does not break our resolve. The door may have been opened for potential re-detainment down the line, but it has not closed our commitment to Palestine and to justice and accountability,"
"I will continue to fight, through every legal avenue and with every ounce of determination, until my rights, and the rights of others like me, are fully protected."
A federal appeals court reversed a lower court order that had directed the release of Mahmoud Khalil, a Columbia University graduate and pro-Palestinian activist detained by immigration officials for several months. The court dismissed his lawsuit in a 2-1 ruling, finding the lower court lacked jurisdiction and that Khalil should raise his claims later in his immigration hearing or in a petition for review of a final removal order. Circuit judges Thomas Hardiman and Stephanos Bibas formed the majority; Judge Arianna J. Freeman dissented, citing Khalil's detainment as causing irreparable injury. Khalil stated he will continue pursuing legal avenues.
