Multiple prosecutors in the Eastern District of Virginia resisted political pressure to file charges against several of Trump's political opponents. U.S. Attorney Erik Seibert was removed after declining to bring charges against New York Attorney General Letitia James and others. Lindsey Halligan was installed in Seibert's place and quickly filed charges against former FBI Director James Comey near the statute of limitations. Elizabeth Yusi, lead on the James matter, found no probable cause for mortgage fraud and is prepared to lose her job rather than pursue unjustified charges. Michael Ben'Ary criticized political leadership and was fired after questions about his loyalty.
