And Duffy said that a number of states have hired other companies to administer commercial driver's licenses tests, and those companies aren't enforcing the standards that drivers are supposed to meet."

Some states used third-party companies to administer tests that failed to enforce required standards. The campaign will also target fraudulent trucking companies, questionable driving schools, and state compliance with licensing regulations. The Transportation Department flagged 557 driving schools for closure for failing basic safety standards. Recent fatal crashes involving unauthorized or unqualified drivers prompted the actions.
