The president, his entourage and reporters landed shortly after 11:00pm and resumed travel more than two hours later on a smaller Boeing 757 that departed just after midnight. The two aircraft currently used as Air Force One have been in service for nearly four decades and Boeing's replacement programme has faced delays. The planes include radiation shielding, antimissile systems and extensive communications equipment. A donated Boeing 747-8 is being retrofitted for the fleet.
