Paul Weiss partner Jeh Johnson is departing the firm to become co-chair of Columbia University's Board of Trustees after four decades in private practice. His transition comes as Columbia faces significant federal scrutiny from the Trump administration regarding antisemitism complaints, resulting in cut funding. Johnson expressed gratitude for his time at Paul Weiss and his colleagues, as he prepares for a new phase focused on enhancing Columbia's strategies in challenging times.
"I am retiring from Paul Weiss and intend to devote significant time and energy to Columbia," Johnson said. "Paul Weiss has been my private law practice home off and on for over 40 years."
Columbia is under a microscope by the Trump administration for its handling of antisemitism complaints by Jewish students, and, as a result, Trump cut $400 million in federal grants and contracts.
