After 2024 chaos, Boston's polling places are stocked with extra ballots
"Local News Boston's election department has been under state control for months. On Election Day last November, multiple precincts in Boston ran dangerously low on ballots, forcing police cruisers to rush through the city in order to restock the polling places. Tuesday's preliminary municipal election will not draw the heightened voting numbers seen in a presidential election, but officials are still paying close attention to make sure enough ballots are stocked."
"After last year's fiasco, Secretary of State William Galvin opened an investigation and later ordered an "overhaul" of the Boston's election department. The department has been under state receivership for months, and changes have been made to ensure things go smoothly in the future. That includes stocking extra ballots and the use of electronic check-in devices known as Poll Pads, a spokesperson for Galvin's office confirmed Tuesday."
On Election Day last November multiple Boston precincts ran dangerously low on ballots, forcing police cruisers to rush through the city to restock polling places. Secretary of State William Galvin opened an investigation and placed Boston's election department under state receivership, ordering an overhaul and implementing changes. Measures include stocking extra ballots, deploying electronic check-in Poll Pads to all 275 polling locations (used in early voting since 2016) while keeping the actual voting process the same, and improving the communications system after phone lines were overwhelmed. Residents can find polling locations on the Secretary of State and city websites; polls are open until 8 p.m.
