"Many trans health advocates believe the comment period, formally called a Request for Information (RFI), is a ruse - a means by the administration to selectively pick comments in order to justify bans on health care for trans youth. Indeed, the RFI uses leading questions, asking commenters to express how they "may have been exposed to false or unsupported claims about 'gender-affirming care,' especially as it relates to minors," to "gauge the harms consumers may be experiencing.""
"In actuality, gender-affirming care, including for youth, is based on decades of research and supported by a number of leading health organizations, including the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Nurses Association, the American Psychiatric Association and the World Health Organization (WHO), among many others."
An open FTC comment period (Request for Information) on gender-affirming care for transgender youth is approaching its deadline. Many trans health advocates view the RFI as a ruse intended to selectively harvest comments to justify bans on care. The RFI contains leading questions asking whether commenters were exposed to false or unsupported claims and asking respondents to describe alleged consumer harms. It remains unclear how responses will be used. FTC Chair Andrew N. Ferguson has overseen several actions described as anti-trans, including a workshop titled "The Dangers of 'Gender-Affirming Care' for Minors." Major medical organizations support gender-affirming care based on decades of research.
