"Privilege to discuss geopolitical issues with [Hikmet] Hajiyev, COS to President [Ilham] Aliyev of Azerbaijan at the Presidential Palace,"
"We kept the conversation at a high level discussing how the city will host Formula 1 next September and of course their hopes for peace in the region with their neighbors,"
"the lovely city of Baku because I have clients based in the city and region."
Frank Carone traveled to Baku and met with Hikmet Hajiyev, chief of staff to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, at the presidential palace. Carone posted a photo of the meeting on his private Instagram and captioned it as a privilege to discuss geopolitical issues. Carone served as Mayor Eric Adams' City Hall chief of staff until resigning in January to lead the mayor's 2025 reelection campaign. After leaving City Hall, Carone launched Oaktree Solutions, a consulting firm seeking international clients for business, litigation, and crisis management. Carone said he was in Baku for clients in the region, declined to name them, and said the meeting focused at a high level on Formula 1 hosting and hopes for regional peace. He did not disclose whether he had discussed the meeting with Mayor Adams. Mayor Eric Adams previously faced criticism during the 2021 campaign for accepting a trip to Azerbaijan.
