More than two dozen activists were arrested while protesting proposed policies that would end gender-affirming care for minors at hospitals nationwide. Over 50 activists, including parents of transgender youth and ACT UP members, gathered outside the HHS Hubert H. Humphrey building for a Gender Liberation Movement protest. Protesters blocked the entrance, held signs, chanted, and shouted during the final public-comment day on draft HHS rules. The proposed rules would block federal funding through Medicare, Medicaid and CHIP for any hospital providing gender-affirming care to patients under 18. Dozens of hospitals have preemptively halted youth programs amid threats to withhold funding. HHS General Counsel Mike Stuart referred four community health centers, including Callen-Lorde and the Los Angeles LGBT Center, for investigation.
