Pete Buttigieg criticized the Trump administration for seeking to deport an Afghan man who supported a U.S. nonprofit teaching teens computer skills and fears Taliban retaliation. The man escaped Afghanistan on a U.S. military plane, applied for asylum, and lived with his naturalized-brother's household of U.S. citizens. He entered the U.S. on humanitarian parole in July, when ICE arrested him and canceled his parole, making him undocumented. He has remained in federal custody while fighting deportation. The administration does not accuse him of criminal or terrorist activity. About 250,000 Afghan refugees live in the United States.
