A U.S. House resolution honored far-right activist Charlie Kirk after his assassination, receiving 215 Republican and 95 Democratic votes. Kirk had a public record of anti-LGBTQ+, racist, and misogynist statements. The resolution called Kirk "a courageous American patriot," urged condemnation of political violence, and asked leaders across institutions to unite against political violence. Fifty-eight Democrats opposed the resolution, 38 voted present, and 22 did not vote; four Republicans did not vote. Some Democrats cited fear of backlash or misuse of a no vote, while others voted to condemn political violence despite discomfort with Kirk's record.
