22 GOP AGs Just Quietly Launched a New Attack on the Abortion Pill
Briefly

In April, Senator Josh Hawley amplified a dubious study, alleging serious risks from the abortion pill mifepristone, urging the FDA for a re-review. In response, FDA head Dr. Marty Makary agreed to review, and recently, 22 GOP attorneys general demanded the same, citing a flawed study by a right-wing think tank. The study inaccurately included various patient outcomes and misrepresented mifepristone’s safety, which is supported by significant research showing it is safer than many common medications. The AGs’ letter also requested the removal of mifepristone during this review process.
Many studies, including those from credible institutions, demonstrate mifepristone's safety, indicating it poses fewer risks than common medications like Tylenol and Viagra.
The letter from 22 GOP attorneys general to the FDA ignored key facts, relying on a flawed and unpeer-reviewed study that misrepresented mifepristone's safety record.
