2 weeks on from Epstein files release deadline, 2 million docs remain under DOJ review
"Of note: The DOJ said on Christmas Eve it had uncovered over 1 million more documents potentially related to the case and that the review process could take " a few more weeks" due to "the mass volume of material." Representatives for the DOJ did not immediately respond to Axios' request for comment on when officials expect the process to be completed."
"The 2 million documents-plus documents "identified as potentially responsive to the Act remain in various phases of review and redaction," says the letter that's signed by Attorney General Pam Bondi, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche and U.S. Attorney Southern District of New York Jay Clayton. "Currently, and anticipated for the next few weeks ahead, in the range of over 400 lawyers across the Department will dedicate all or a substantial portion of their workday to the Department's efforts to comply with the Act.""
DOJ completed review of 12,285 Epstein-related documents, representing under 1% of records required to meet the Epstein Files Transparency Act's Dec. 19 deadline. Over two million potentially responsive documents remain in various phases of review and redaction. The review team includes over 400 lawyers dedicating substantial portions of their workdays, but top officials say substantial work remains. The Department announced discovery of more than 1 million additional potentially related documents on Christmas Eve. The review process could take additional weeks because of the mass volume of material. Department representatives did not immediately state when the process will finish.
