A dump truck delivering asphalt fell vertically halfway into a sinkhole on Summit Avenue in Philipsburg, New Jersey, with the front half still protruding above the street. The collapse opened fissures near the intersection with Lewis Street and damaged a water main, leaving dozens of customers without water. The truck driver sustained minor injuries and was treated on scene. About 30 feet away, a car sank into a separate sinkhole and was later removed. Aqua New Jersey must wait until the truck is removed before repairing the water main. The town declared a local state of emergency and urged people to avoid the area.
