The attack occurred during a service at about 10:25 a.m.; one injured victim is in critical condition and seven are stable. Sanford used gasoline to set the church on fire and died after exchanging gunfire with responding officers. Sanford was a U.S. Marine veteran who served in Iraq from 2004 to 2008. The suspect's son had battled hyperinsulinism, prompting specialized treatment in Texas. The FBI is leading a targeted-violence investigation and no motive has been identified.
