""I will admit, the video does not look pretty. However, anytime officers have to use force, it never does," the Webster Police Department said on Facebook. "The viewer has no idea the circumstances that led up to this interaction, what the officers' perception of the situation was, and why they responded the way they did.""
""There was no reason for me to be beaten to that level where I can't even talk correctly," Villanueva told the news station. "It's just crazy that like, I'm almost being seen as some kind of bad person as if I was trying to beat up a cop or just something stupid like that, when in reality all I was trying to do was protect myself.""
A social media video shows Webster police officers wrestling, punching, and tasing a 17-year-old during an arrest after reports of juveniles removing rifles from a backpack. Officers responded to reports of three juveniles near Park Street and Myrtle Avenue and later to an incident where a car window was shot out and an altercation occurred on Wall Street. Police say a possible firearm on scene heightened officer safety concerns. The teen, identified as Japhet Villanueva, appeared injured with a broken nose, missing teeth, and bruises and said he lightly pushed an officer to protect himself.
