"FRANCE 24's Emerald Maxwell reports."
Nineteen Buddhist monks and their dog, Aloka, completed a 108-day Walk for Peace that covered approximately 2,300 miles (3,700 kilometers) from Texas to Washington. The group walked across several Southern states, sometimes facing frigid conditions, and stopped in churchyards, city halls and town squares where they drew large crowds. A day after finishing the cross-country trek, the monks walked to Capitol Hill and then proceeded to the Lincoln Memorial to conclude their journey. The pilgrimage combined sustained physical endurance with public engagement across diverse communities along the route.
