The employees at Voice of America (VOA) are set to return to work following a Justice Department email confirming a phased return to the office. This move comes after a U.S. District Judge granted a preliminary injunction against a March executive order by the Trump administration that aimed to dismantle the U.S. Agency for Global Media, which oversees VOA. The executive order was deemed arbitrary, allowing VOA operations to resume while appeals continue. VOA staff members began to regain access to government accounts in anticipation of resuming programming next week.
"We understand that earlier today USAGM CIO staff activated the accounts of 1,406 USAGM and VOA employees and contractors," González Horowitz noted in her confirmation email.
U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth ruled against the executive order, saying it "was arbitrary and likely exceeded the president's authority," thus allowing VOA to operate.
