But competition has heated up in recent years, in the form of rivals AT&T and T-Mobile and a growing list of smaller wireless providers offering bargain prices and celebrity endorsements. CEO Hans Vestberg said on a July earnings call that the company is ahead of schedule in rolling out an upgrade to its wireless network and expanding its fiber network.
