Pavia later posted a lengthy apology on X saying he wanted to win, that coming up short was painful, and that he did not handle his emotions well. He apologized to the Heisman voters and the selection process. Mendoza received 643 first-place votes and 2,362 points; Pavia received 189 first-place votes and 1,435 points. Mendoza completed 71.5% of his passes for 2,980 yards and 33 touchdown passes.
