Frida Karlsson of Sweden won gold, finishing 46 seconds ahead of silver medalist Ebba Andersson. Diggins edged Norway's Astrid Oyre Slind by three-tenths of a second. Teammate Hailey Swirbul described Diggins as tough and compared her pain to broken bones. Diggins has now medaled at three consecutive Olympics.
