"The T-38 has been life-extended multiple times,"
"There's an escalating cost of retaining the airplane and keeping it flyable,"
"is no longer aligned with current or future aircraft."
"is increasingly expensive to maintain and is no longer reflective of modern combat aircraft."
The T-7 Red Hawk arrived at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph in Texas and will serve as the Air Force's new advanced jet trainer. Boeing manufactured the first T-7 delivered this month. The T-7 will replace the Northrop Grumman T-38 Talon, which has trained pilots for roughly six decades and underwent multiple life extensions. The aging T-38 has rising sustainment costs and no longer reflects modern combat aircraft. The Government Accountability Office reported reliance on the T-38 amid simulator delays and new trainer development. Training on the T-7 will train pilots to operate fifth-generation fighters, stealth bombers, and planned sixth-generation aircraft, emphasizing information management and advanced sensor interpretation.
