UCLA storms past South Carolina to claim its 1st NCAA women's basketball title
"I knew we were going to do it. Coming to UCLA we all set out for a goal, and I imagined this moment. I imagined it so many times, and I am just so, so proud. ... Crying a lot, the confetti, all of the fans being here to support us, my family being here, it just means everything."
"It's immeasurably more than I could ask or imagine. It's beyond my wildest dreams."
"Connectivity. Attention to detail. You know I looked them in the eyes before in the locker room, before the game, and I said, 'I'm so proud to be able to say this.' Because all year we've been saying the talent is our floor, but our character will determine our ceiling."
UCLA women's basketball achieved its first NCAA national championship by defeating South Carolina 79-51. Gabriela Jaquez scored 21 points, while Lauren Betts contributed 16 points. The Bruins' only loss this season was in November. Coach Cori Close expressed immense pride in the team's journey and character. The championship marks UCLA's first title since the 1978 AIAW championship. The team, composed of seniors and transfer players, showcased strong connectivity and attention to detail throughout the season.
