"Starting today, outside of Washington, D.C., operations, MSNBC will no longer rely on NBC News correspondents or crews for coverage. Beginning on Oct. 20, MSNBC will no longer rely on NBC News correspondents or crews for Washington, D.C.-based coverage. And by the end of the month, MSNBC will no longer participate in NBC News-led editorial calls and meetings. It will be fully independent."
"As a starting point, we have established 10 core principles for our journalists and our journalism - a set of guidelines that will guide our decision-making and reinforce trust with our audience. We operate in a world and an industry that is undergoing rapid change, and our broader standards manual will be an organic document that reflects this reality by adapting and changing with the times."
MSNBC is splitting from NBC News after more than 29 years to establish an independent newsgathering operation. Outside Washington, D.C., MSNBC will immediately stop relying on NBC News correspondents or crews for coverage. Washington-based coverage will transition to MSNBC's own teams beginning Oct. 20. By the end of the month, MSNBC will exit NBC News-led editorial calls and operate fully independently. The network plans to rebrand as MS NOW (My Source for News, Opinion and the World). Leadership has established 10 core principles to guide journalists, decision-making, and audience trust. A broader standards manual will remain adaptable and organic while the principles endure.
