The Senate has passed a long-awaited fix aimed at preventing veterans from losing their homes due to financial hardships. This legislation comes after the abrupt termination of a homeowner assistance program by the Department of Veterans Affairs, which previously left veterans with limited options. The new law will enable veterans behind on mortgage payments to defer those payments, preventing foreclosure. The initiative reflects bipartisan support, with congressional leaders highlighting the importance of the VA Home Loan Program for veterans and their families since its inception in 1944.
The Senate has passed a long-awaited fix for veterans designed to keep many from losing their homes, after a series of stumbles by the VA left thousands of veterans on the verge of foreclosure.
If signed into law by the president, the new law will help veterans who have fallen behind on their mortgage payments by moving those missed payments to the back of their loan term.
The VA Home Loan Program provides one of the best benefits VA has to offer, and has helped veterans and their families build home equity since its inception in 1944.
Congress now appears to have done that, in a rare show of bipartisanship.
