Tariffs make sour grapes for American winemakers
Briefly

Tariffs imposed by President Trump on the European Union have created a price advantage for domestic winemakers over imported wines like prosecco and Champagne. However, many American winemakers feel that these tariffs are detrimental rather than beneficial. They argue that the costs of essential production materials, such as corks, glass bottles, and French oak barrels, are likely to rise, negatively impacting wine quality and limiting their options. The overall sentiment among winemakers is that these tariffs could harm rather than help their industry.
To me, it's awful. There's no upside... Not having French oak will drastically change the flavor profile of many wines, driving up costs and harming quality.
American winemakers' primary fear... the costs of all the things they need to make wine will go up, challenging the assumption tariffs help domestic industries.
