"The indictment against 46-year-old Jermaine Godfrey stems from a January bust where plainclothes Oakland officers allegedly observed Godfrey and his brother, Corntae Godfrey, handling bindles of crack and a firearm, prosecutors said. Corntae Godfrey is facing charges in Alameda County Superior Court. Jermaine Godfrey was arrested in 2015, alongside 32-year-old Dwight Bradford, in the July 10, 2014, killing of 18-year-old Anaya Dominguez."
"U.S. District Judge Thomas Hixson cited Godfrey's criminal history as a reason to keep him detained while the case is pending, writing in a court order that there is strong evidence Godfrey possessed multiple firearms and even after the manslaughter conviction he continues to possess firearms and therefore poses a danger to the community. In 2022, Godfrey was arrested in Oakland with 401 twists of crack cocaine, as well as $2,006 in cash, according to police."
Jermaine Godfrey, 46, was indicted in federal court on charges of possessing a firearm while allegedly selling crack cocaine following a January bust. Plainclothes officers allegedly observed Godfrey and his brother handling crack bindles and a firearm. Godfrey previously accepted a plea deal in a 2014 killing and served a six-year prison term. A judge cited Godfrey's criminal history and alleged continued firearm possession as reasons to keep him detained. Police records show arrests in 2022 and last June for large quantities of cocaine and significant cash seizures. Defense filings describe Godfrey as a lifelong Oakland resident and father seeking bond sureties. Godfrey faces up to 15 years and a $250,000 fine if convicted and is next due in court in late October.
