UConn earned four first-place votes and enters with preseason freshman of the year Braylon Mullins. The AP Top 25 preseason poll ranked UConn fourth and St. John's fifth, the highest-ever AP preseason ranking for St. John's. The conference preview lists Creighton, Providence, Marquette and Georgetown among the top teams, and notes coaching changes at Villanova and Xavier.
