Squirrel on field briefly delays Red Sox-Yanks game
Briefly

A squirrel ran onto the field during the Yankees–Red Sox game and caused a brief delay. The mammal emerged from behind the plate in the fourth inning and stopped behind Boston rookie Jhostynxon Garcia's left foot while the outfielder adjusted his batting gloves. The squirrel paused on the third-base foul line, moved to the front of the mound and briefly tried to dig as Max Fried looked on. The animal then sped past first baseman Ben Rice and umpire Carlos Torres down the right-field line while seeking an exit. Play resumed after Fried threw a pitch to the backstop. Prior incidents at Yankee Stadium involved a squirrel on May 23, 2023, and a cat on Aug. 2, 2021, both of which briefly delayed games.
