Sister charged in Oakland shooting after victim allegedly beat up her brother
"The brother was involved in a physical fight with the man who ended up getting shot and another man. He did not know the men and the fight may have been over a woman, authorities said. The brother was being punched and kicked by the two men when his sister allegedly opened fire on them, wounding the Vallejo man."
"She ran to a parking lot in the 1600 block of San Pablo Avenue, where she discarded the gun and some clothing, and returned to the scene of the shooting, according to court records. As she was running to the lot, her brother allegedly punched a police officer trying to catch her, and he was arrested."
"When she got back to the shooting scene, Wiley identified herself to officers, who noted she was wearing some of the same clothing seen on a shooting suspect in surveillance video. But no one present at the shooting could positively identify her as the shooter and she was allowed to leave."
Sierra Wiley, 26, faces attempted murder and two counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm for a February 8 shooting in Oakland's Uptown district. The incident occurred around 4:08 a.m. when her brother was involved in a physical altercation with two men, including a 34-year-old Vallejo man who sustained five bullet wounds. Wiley allegedly opened fire to defend her brother during the fight. After the shooting, she discarded the weapon and clothing in a parking lot before returning to the scene. Her 24-year-old brother faces accessory charges for helping her escape and hide the gun, plus battery for punching a police officer. The wounded man remains hospitalized. Wiley was initially released after identifying herself to officers, as no witnesses could positively identify her as the shooter.
