She was abducted to Bay Area, kept as a child sex slave in backyard shed. Now Jane Doe' has her day in court
"DUBLIN It was Jane Doe's first time laying eyes on Juan Aguilar since the 44-year-old man had been convicted of trafficking her to the Bay Area and keeping her in a shed of his San Leandro backyard, where she'd later tell police he'd rape her constantly. This Aug. 29 court date marked nearly four years to the day since San Leandro police investigators discovered her in the shed, following up on a tip from CPS in San Francisco."
"The nights are the hardest, Doe wrote. I often sleep terribly and have nightmares, trapped in memories that I cannot undo, longing to regain my lost innocence. But she added: I want you to know that I am working hard to reconcile my past and my present. I have the support of good people who encourage me, and I have a therapist."
Jane Doe was discovered in a shed in a San Leandro backyard nearly four years ago after investigators followed a tip. She was 15, a Honduran native who had been trafficked to the Bay Area by Juan Aguilar, who coached her to arrange paid sexual encounters and repeatedly raped her. Aguilar threatened Doe's family with a gun to coerce her to leave with him. Aguilar has been jailed and was sentenced to 18 years for human trafficking, rape, and forcible oral copulation. Doe has engaged in therapy and coping activities while suffering nightmares and working to reconcile her past.
