"Kentucky, we're starting today with the tough news that we lost at least 14 of our people to last night's storms, but sadly, this number is expected to grow as we receive more information," Beshear said.
"The devastation from last night's deadly weather is heartbreaking, but we are going to make sure we get the support needed to recover and rebuild together," the Kentucky governor said.
"Please pray for all of our affected families," Governor Beshear advised, highlighting an urgent appeal for support during this tragedy.
Local authorities reported that nine people were killed by a tornado that touched down on Friday night in Laurel County, southeast Kentucky, showing the severity of the storms.
