A 47-foot boat capsized around 4 p.m. off the Merrimack River near Newburyport after leaving Salisbury Marina. Two boaters on board were wearing life jackets and had communicated with the Coast Guard before the connection was lost and the vessel overturned. The Coast Guard conducted a 22-hour search that began Saturday and was suspended Monday night for a man estimated to be in his 50s who remains missing. One boat owner was rescued from the water and taken to a hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. Rough conditions and high surf from Hurricane Erin created hazardous rip currents, prompting Salisbury Beach to close.
