Santa Clara estimates Super Bowl LX could cost $6.3 million when Levi's Stadium hosts in 2026
Briefly

Levi's Stadium is preparing to host Super Bowl LX in six months while local events draw 49ers fans and raise funds for Bay Area youth. The city of Santa Clara is negotiating a 'Super Bowl LX League Event Agreement' with the Bay Area Host Committee and the 49ers. City officials estimate preliminary costs at $6.3 million covering event planning, training services and equipment. City policy currently requires fronting costs and later seeking reimbursement, with the Host Committee holding authority to judge which expenses are reasonable to reimburse, creating potential financial exposure for the city.
Hundreds of 49ers fans poured into Levi's Stadium to celebrate football and community. On Wednesday night, the 49ers Foundation held their annual fundraiser where the entire team dines on the field to help raise money for Bay Area youth. 49ers Offensive Tackle Colton McKivitz said it's amazing to be a part of it. "Now we're a week and a couple days away from opening in Seattle so it's exciting to be here - you know we always know this dinner is coming, and when you get to it you know the season is right around the corner," McKivitz said.
Santa Clara Mayor Lisa Gillmor said right now the city is in ongoing negotiations with the Bay Area Host Committee, and the 49ers to develop what's called a 'Super Bowl LX League Event Agreement.' "I love sports and I know this is great, but at the end of the day everyone will leave and we'll be stuck with these bills I don't want that- I want to make sure we're protected," Gillmor said. The city has developed a preliminary estimate of the cost for Super Bowl LX of $6.3 million. The estimate includes projections for event planning, training services and equipment expenses. "We front everything and then we have to go through the reimbursement process," Gillmor said. According to the draft agreement, the Bay Area Host Committee gets to determine which costs are reasonable to reimburse. Something Gillmor would like to see amended.
