San Jose State looks to extend school record in season opener
"SJSU opened the season 4-2, but Eget still appeared in four of those games, including coming off the bench to rally the Spartans past Nevada. Eget made his first career start two weeks later in a win over Wyoming and never relinquished the job. He was 3-4 as a starter, but led the Spartans to their bowl eligibility-clinching win over Oregon State and rallied SJSU past Stanford in the regular season finale."
"In 12 games overall last season. Eget threw for 2,504 yards for 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. SJSU expects Eget to make even bigger strides in his second season running offensive coordinator Craig Stutzmann's Spread and Shred system, which has a steep learning curve. He's grown into himself, Stutzmann said. He's comfortable. He's confident and he's our leader out there."
Walker Eget will start at quarterback for San Jose State in the season opener against Central Michigan at CEFCU Stadium as the program pursues a fourth straight bowl berth. Eget emerged midlast season after losing the camp battle and later coming off the bench to rally Nevada, then earning the starting job with a win over Wyoming. He finished with 2,504 passing yards, 13 touchdowns and 10 interceptions across 12 games. SJSU expects growth as Eget enters his second season in Craig Stutzmann's Spread and Shred offense. Xavier Ward is the backup; Emmett Brown transferred and is injured.
