QB Chambliss' eligibility fight heads to state court
"Tom Mars told ESPN in a statement Sunday night that he and a noted Mississippi trial lawyer, William Liston, plan to file suit against the NCAA in state court this week for a preliminary injunction that will aim to secure Chambliss' eligibility for 2026. Liston is also the founder and general counsel for The Grove Collective, Ole Miss' collective for the school's athletes."
"Mars told ESPN that he and Liston spent most of the weekend preparing the complaint for a "preliminary and permanent injunction" for Chambliss. Mars had previously called a court in Mississippi a "level playing field." Mars added on Sunday: "We expect the lawsuit to be far more detailed and documented than other eligibility lawsuits that have been filed in the past year. Therefore, considerable work needs to be done before we'll be prepared to seek an injunction that would allow Trinidad to play next season.""
Tom Mars and William Liston plan to file suit against the NCAA in Mississippi seeking a preliminary and permanent injunction to secure Trinidad Chambliss' eligibility for the 2026 season. The NCAA denied Chambliss a waiver for a sixth year of eligibility, stating sufficient medical documentation was not provided. Liston serves as founder and general counsel of The Grove Collective for Ole Miss athletes. Mars said he and Liston spent the weekend preparing a detailed complaint and expects to file toward the end of the week. Chambliss transferred from Division II Ferris State, became the starter after an injury to Austin Simmons, threw 3,937 yards and 22 touchdowns, and led the Rebels to the College Football Playoff semifinals.
