A viral door-kicking prank involves people kicking residents' doors and running away, often recording the actions for social media. At least five calls tied to the prank occurred in a Cape Cod town since November. In some incidents doors were forced open and participants were seen recording the events. The prank poses risks of criminal charges and can unnecessarily terrorize occupants who may believe a break-in is happening. The trend has led to a fatal shooting in Houston that killed an 11-year-old and resulted in a murder charge. Young people were urged to choose positive community actions instead of seeking social media attention.
