Six New England players were named team captains six days before the 2025 season opener against the Las Vegas Raiders, with head coach Mike Vrabel relaying teammate voting results. The captains are TE Hunter Henry; CB Marcus Jones; LB Harold Landry III; QB Drake Maye; ST Brenden Schooler; and LB Robert Spillane. Henry is the sole returning captain from last season after replacing David Andrews when he went on injured reserve. Henry and Spillane are the only captains with prior NFL captaincy; Spillane served as a Raiders captain the past two seasons and signed a three-year, $33 million deal in March. Jones, Maye, Schooler, and Landry are first-time captains. Landry played under Vrabel for five seasons in Tennessee and signed a three-year, $43.5 million contract in March. Spillane described the captaincy as an honor and said recognition by teammates means everything, while Landry said he leads by example and appreciates his teammates' respect.
"It's such an honor to be named a captain," Spillane told reporters after practice. "You don't take these moments lightly. I pour my heart and soul into this. To be recognized by my teammates is everything to me."
"Was I surprised? I mean, I knew it was a possibility," Landry said after practice. "... I don't really say much, I try to lead by example and I'm just glad that my boys in here respect and appreciate it."
