"Obviously a Lie": El Salvador's Bukele Claims He Can't Return Abrego Garcia
Briefly

During a recent press conference, El Salvador President Nayib Bukele, next to Donald Trump, stated he is powerless to return Kilmar Abrego García, a Maryland man deported by the Trump administration. Bukele's assertion that he can't send García back contradicted U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, who implied the decision rested with El Salvador. Critics and immigration advocates, including Rep. Rashida Tlaib, decried Bukele's statement as false and emphasized that returning García to the U.S. is imperative, especially in light of a Supreme Court ruling against his deportation.
"The question is preposterous. How can I smuggle a terrorist into the United States? I don't have the power to return him to the United States."
"That's up to El Salvador if they want to return him," Bondi said, after wrongfully saying that Abrego García is in the country "illegally."
"Kilmar must be returned home to the U.S. immediately. Absolutely no one should be sent to Bukele's torture camp. Trump ignoring a 9-0 Supreme Court order to bring Kilmar home is an unprecedented constitutional crisis."
"What an absolute joke. Everyone here is pretending," said Aaron Reichlin-Melnik, a senior fellow for the American Immigration Council.
